Chitra Full Moon comes once a year and is associated with dissolution of deep seated karma.

In 2012, this festival was on May 5 in the USA, and Dr. Pillai performed a special Fire Lab at the San Diego HoPE Center.

Narasimha’s Birthday comes once a year.  The archetype of the universal preserver or maintainer, Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha, the Man-Lion, to save the world from the super demon Hiranyakashyapu on this day. On this power day, the primal energy of this archetype destroys the negative energy, any deviant energy or spirit possessions.

The Siddhas give this metaphorical explanation: This demon represents the ego at its peak. When the ego is super inflated, actions are irrational and careless. This has a great danger of causing hurt feeling amongst others and creates a sense of unease bringing down the consciousness of those around you.

The Story of Narasimha

Lord Vishnu took the form of Varaha and killed a demon known as Hiranyaksha. His brother Hiranyakashyapu, greatly angered by this, started to abhor Vishnu and his followers. Hiranyakashyapu undergoes many years of great austerity and penance and Lord Brahma becoming pleased by Hiranyakashyapu’s austerities appears before Him and offers him a boon.

Hiranyakashyapu asks that he should not die within any residence or outside any residence, during the daytime or at night, nor on the ground or in the sky. Nor can he be killed by any weapon, by any human being or animal. Lord Brahma blesses him with the desired boon.

Years later, Hiranyakashyapu’s son Prahlada became a devoted follower of Vishnu, much to his father’s disappointment. He became so angry and also started considering Prahlada as his mortal enemy.
Hiranyakashyapu attempts to kill Prahlada many times; however, Lord Vishnu’s mystical power protects him. Once, when Prahlada refused to acknowledge his father as the supreme lord of the universe and claimed that Vishnu is all-pervading and omnipresent, Hiranyakashyapu pointed to a nearby pillar and asked whether Vishnu was in it.

Prahlada answers that he is in it. The demon Hiranyakashyapu, unable to control his anger smashes the pillar with his mace, and Narasimha appears from it. Narasimha – the man lion form, a part-human, part-animal appears at twilight (when it is neither day nor night) on the threshold of a courtyard (neither indoors nor out), and puts the demon on his thighs (neither earth nor space). Then using his sharp fingernails (not a weapon) kills the demon Hiranyakashyapu.

This story teaches the lesson on limiting boundaries of ego and describes Narasimha as having beaten the demon ego by ripping it apart.

Siddhas advise to be aware and prayerful during Narasimha Jayanti. This helps to downsize the ego and to expand our love influencing our material and spiritual life dramatically.
